ATLAS Education in Meriden, Kansas. ATLAS is an acronym for amphibians, turtles, lizards, arachnids, and snakes. It educates the public to change their reactions to such animals. Their goal is to change the way the world perceives animals, and to take the fear out of people's hearts and minds and replace it with love and gratitude. They began doing this through special events in 2020 and moved into this location in January 2024. I visited ATLAS in October 2024 and was met by Seth Butner who is the owner of the interactive zoo and had invited me to check them out. Although their primary goal is education, they are still effectively a rescue organization. Most of their animals are from homes which can no longer care for them, plus some are outright rescues. They also do wild reptile removals within a 30 minute drive. Lumi, who was their newest boa constrictor, was rescued from being kept in an outdoor dog kennel in Kansas City in January. They offer private one hour tours for up to 10 people for $50, or parties for up to 60 people and 5 hours for $200. The parties include a 900 square foot party room and access to the facility. Food is available from Gambino's Pizza a few doors away. They also offer packages to bring animals to your location.
