Carona Depot & Railroad Museum - Scammon, Kansas Carona Depot and Railroad Museum in Scammon, Kansas is operated by the Heart of the Heartlands Railroad Club. The club was formed in 1991 and is dedicated to preserving railroad history, providing short passenger train rides and motorcar excursions. The museum complex in Carona lets them preserve and display railroad memorabilia, rail cars, engines, depots, and other miscellaneous railroad equipment. The complex includes two restored Missouri Pacific Depots, the 1840s Carona, Kansas Depot and the 1882 Boston, Missouri Depot which was moved to the Carona museum complex in 2006. The Railroad Club also restored the former 1910 Santa Fe Depot in Cherryvale, Kansas which is now the operating headquarters of the SK&O Railroad. The club conducts passenger train rides and motorcar excursions on railroads across the central US. Heart of the Heartlands members assist as car attendants and hosts on passenger train rides that are conducted by railroads operated by Watco Transportation Services, LLC (WTS) and the Heart of the Heartlands Club is allowed to schedule a few train rides on WTS railroads. The motorcar excursion are not open to the public.
