Ellis Railroad Museum - Ellis, Kansas The Ellis Railroad Museum fills two floors in a 1926 community building in downtown Ellis, Kansas. The museum's web site describes over 5,000 square feet of working model train layout. The museum is interesting and worth a visit. The upstairs houses a collection of 1,200 dolls which may be toured at no additional cost. There are a few interactive exhibits, and visitors may try their hand at Morris Code by telegraph and sound a train whistle. A Union Pacific caboose is located next to the Ellis Railroad Museum, along with a small depot which was moved to the site from Penokee, Kansas. On Wednesday - Saturday from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day, a 1/3 scale General Motors Aero Streamliner departs from the depot and travels along a 2.5 mile track. (Adults $6, 6-12 years $4, 65 and older $5). The does NOT operate in inclement weather. During the fall of 2025, the train ran on Saturdays. Call to confirm if the train will be running. I think that typical visitors will spend about 45-60 minutes in the museum.
