Eureka Spring Site - Eureka, Kansas The Eureka Spring was discovered by pioneers in August of 1857, who reputedly shouted, "Eureka, I found it!" They laid a claim to the area around the fresh water source and it became the community Eureka, Kansas. Today the spring site lies down an alley off of US Highway 54 near Main Street and there is a plaque and stone retaining walls. A Founders Park has been developed nearby.
