Harvey County Historical Museum & Archive - Newton, Kansas

The Harvey County Historical Museum & Archives is housed in the 1904 Carnegie Library in Newton, Kansas. It has entertaining and informational permanent and rotating exhibits. The permanent exhibit tells the story of Harvey County. When we visited the museum, the temporary exhibit was a fun look at games through the years.

The Harvey County Historical Society was formed in 1907. The society acquired the former library from the city in 1973 for $1 and the museum opened in the following year. The society also has a 1873 school available for free use by school groups. The school was not open to the public the day we toured the museum

The Carnegie Library also houses a research library and archive for family history, house history and local history.
