Memorial Park Cemetery - Hutchinson, Kansas We found Memorial Park Cemetery, just west of Hutchinson, Kansas, while on our way to photograph the President Warren G. Harding Memorial, which was erected in memory of President Harding's 1923 visit to Hutchinson. Driving through the cemetery, the first thing which caught our eyes were the carved tree trunks which are scattered through the large cemetery. We have since learned that the trees were damaged by an ice storm in 2007 and that the carvings are the work of chain saw artists Vicki and Pat Langton, who own Rustic Creations located near Perry, Kansas. When walking over to photograph a detailed carving with several animals, we found "Petland" with the burials of a number of dogs and cats. If there are other animals, their species was not obvious on the memorial stones. Memorial Park Cemetery also has some large memorials, in addition to the Harding Memorial, just across 4th Avenue. The cemetery name was changed to Penwell-Gabel Cemetery for a number of years, but returned to Memorial Park Cemetery after a change in ownership in 2015.
