![]() Buck Tui BBQ - Overland Park, Kansas Buck Tui BBQ is a Thai influenced barbecue restaurant which opened in Overland Park, Kansas during the height of Covid. Chefs Ted Liberda and Pam Liberda already had several year old Waldo Thai in Kansas City, Missouri, but were looking to take their food in a new direction. When we first tried their food in February 2022, there was curbside only sales and we ordered online. We arrived to find 6 or 7 vehicles already waiting curb side. From outside it appeared that there was much more work to be done before they would open inside. We enjoyed the dishes we sampled, but felt they suffered from the 15 minute drive taking them home. We have been much happier with the food served in the restaurant. I like the concept of this restaurant and believe it has a genuine place in the Kansas City BBQ scene. The service has been consistently good and occasionally outstanding. As we were being seated during one of our early visits, I saw Pineapple Rib Fried Rice at another table and it looked awesome, so I ordered it, The fried rice was very good, but I felt the flavor of the ribs didn't quite live up to their appearance. That was nearly 2 years ago, so the ribs may have changed since then. The Phad Thai brisket is made with rice noodles, smoked brisket, egg, cabbage, bean sprout, scallion, peanut, and lime. It tasted pretty good! I wanted more heat and asked for Thai peppers in fish oil. They didn't have sliced Thai peppers, but did bring me sliced serrano pepper and fish oil, which made the meal just right for me. Other entrees which we sampled include the Buck Tui Noodles (Pulled pork, egg noodles, scallion, bean sprouts, cilantro, ginger), and Brisket Noodle Curry (Brined brisket, coconut curry, roasted small potatoes, long bean, vermicelli noodles, Thai chile, peanut). Their photo is near the bottom of this page. The X Man sandwich is described as brisket, heavenly pork, Thai sausage, pickle, papaya slaw, and creamy tiger cry sauce. The sandwich is fairly thick to bite into and the serrated knife the sandwich came with makes it easier if you choose to cut it. The only other sandwich I've tried is the the Buck Tui Banh Mi (Smoked chicken, chicken liver mousse, ginger pickles, jalapenos, crusty hoagie). I asked about the Tiger Cry sauce (which is quite popular and a reason many people order this sandwich). Unlike many BBQ restaurants that refuse to describe what goes into the sauce, I was told it was a salsa verde with mayo and sour cream ranch with horseradish. I liked the sauce with the fries, but liked the sandwich more with a touch more of the mild bbq sauce. We have tried many appetizers at Buck Tui: Butterscotch Wings, Chili Crunch Nachos, Brisket Rangoon, Mini Garlic Ribs, and Brisket Egg Rolls (Brined brisket, cream cheese, scallion, sweet & sour sauce). The mini ribs, Brisket Rangoon, and Brisket Egg Roll have been our favorites. The cream cheese in the egg rolls is a hit! There is good pricing on appetizers during Happy Hour. Times are Monday - Wednesday 4:30-6 PM, Thursday: 11 AM - 2:30 PM & 4:40 PM - 6 PM, and Saturday 3-6 PM. I've had only one dessert at Buck Tui BBQ. My server helped me choose between the Thai bread pudding or warm brownie with chocolate ice cream. The brownie was a little chewy, which sounds bad, but I liked it because it released more flavor in my mouth with each chew. I would get it again. It was a nice size, not so big that I ate too much on top of the meal.
