Filling Station BBQ - Lee's Summit, Missouri I first ate at Filling Station BBQ in Lee's Summit, Missouri in about 2002, but revisited the restaurant in 2024 to add it to our Kansas City BBQ Restaurant Guide. The restaurant is in a good looking 1930's Texaco station. It was a garden center for many years, but in 1999 the exterior was turned into a cool filling station with outside seating and about 9 tables inside. The meats I've tried are quite good, though the sides are less impressive. I had the $22.99 chicken & ribs combination dinner. It came with the choice of two sides and I went with smoked beans and French fries. The Combo included three ribs and a dark chicken quarter. The ribs were tender and smoky, but not strongly so. They had a rich flavor from rub and there was no need for sauce. The chicken was smoked similar, but with a little more heat in the rub. The pieces were rather small. The beans were sweet and smoky with lots of pork. When I ate them in the restaurant, I thought they weere little better than average, but the reheated leftovers were even better a few days later.. The fries were not as good as they looked, made from frozen, limp and not a treat. There are four sauces. All of them are thin and very sweet. The original sauce was quite sweet. I didn't think that the sweet was as sweet, but it is the thickest of the Filling Station sauces. The regular has more vinegar and reminds me of Gates Original Classic sauce. The hot tastes much like the original with a kick of heat. The service was friendly and helpful.
