Kearny County Museum - Lakin, Kansas The Kearny County Museum occupies a complex of buildings in Lakin, Kansas. The main museum has two large galleries in adjacent buildings. The largest gallery has cubicles with mini displays of various items from many types of local businesses. The second gallery has two large wagons and farm related displays. The museum doesn't officially open until 9 AM, but is often open by 8 AM. The exhibits are well designed and informative. Guided tours are available if scheduled at least two weeks in advance, depending on staff availability. The historical society is also a source for local geneology research. The adjacent White House was part of the property which was deeded to the Kearny County Historical Society in 1974 and has turn of the 20th century furnishings. Along the way, a one room Columbia School House and the Lakin Santa Fe Depot have also been relocated to the property. A machinery area of the museum and small round barn are across the street from the complex, but were kept locked up the day of my visit.
