The Roniger Memorial Museum in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas was built by brothers Frank and George Roniger as a memorial to their mother, Elizabeth Roniger. The limestone building was erected on the courthouse grounds and presented to the Chase County Board of County Commissioners in July of 1960. There is a large collection of arrowheads which were found on the Roniger Farm, assorted other Native American utensils & artifacts, mounted animals & heads, and some items from the early European settlement of the region. We were greeted at the door to the museum by a nice lady and her little corgi dog. It took about 20 minutes for me to see all of the one room museum, but someone with the right interests might spend an hour or more. The museum is kind of tucked away, behind the beautiful Chase County Courthouse, where most visitors to Cottonwood Falls may have no idea there is a museum. Roniger Memorial Museum is open 5 afternoons a week, but appointments to visit the museum at other times may be available by calling the Chase County Clerk's office at (620) 273-6423.
