Washington County Museum - Washington, Kansas The Washington County Historical & Genealogical Society opened the Washington County Museum in Washington, Kansas in 1983 with two floors of exhibits. They have added multiple buildings until they are a small complex with exhibits and research offices, with a cool 1899 native stone county jail a few blocks away. We couldn't be there during their regular hours, but had made an appointment and the society's president, Jim Mooren, met us at the main building of the historical museum and let walk through the three adjacent building at our own pace. We then followed him in our vehicle and visited the old jail. The building south of the museum has exhibits of farm and business life, the Museum Office and Genealogy Department. They invite the public to come in and research family, business, town or county history. On the far side of that building is the one room Emmons School, which was moved to this location in 2006. The Luebs Camera Collection has over 650 cameras and is still growing.
