Rise Farms - Wichita, Kansas Rise Farms is a 15,000 square foot specialty farm growing vegetables, herbs and a few flowers in raised planters using a lightweight soil substitute on the roof of Fidelity Bank's RISE Car Park in downtown Wichita, Kansas. The rooftop also has a 204 panel solar farm and some of the electricity produced is used to power the electric vehicle charging stations in the multi-floor parking garage below. We were given a tour by Leah Dannar-Garcia, who is the owner of RISE Farms and an older more conventional Firefly Farm gave us a thorough tour and explained many of their successes and failures as she continues to learn how to farm this way by doing. Firefly Farm is a five acre, vintage farmstead located just one mile east of Wichita city limits. It focuses on heirloom vegetables, specifically heirloom tomatoes. Vegetables grown at both farms are served at many local Wichita restaurants (including Lotte in the same building) and can be purchased through Food Hub. Tours of Rise Farms can be scheduled May through September.
