Deerfield Texaco Service Station - Deerfield, Kansas The Deerfield Texaco Service Station in Deerfield, Kansas is an attractive little classic Texaco gas station which was built in 1923 on what was then U.S. Highway 50. It operated into the 1950s. The building has a cedar roof and is reminiscent of an English Tudor home. There is a small Texaco sign out front and the classic restored visible hand crank gas pumps are covered with wooden boxes painted to look like the pumps. This site is maintained by the Kearny County Historical Society (which has a museum in nearby Lakin, Kansas), which purchased the property in 2006. They restored the gas station and in 2007 it became the only place in Kesrny County on the National Register of Historic Places. Through the windows you can see photos and Texaco artifacts, but it is only open to the public during special event
