Grace Bedell was the 11 year old girl who on October 15, 1860 wrote to Abraham Lincoln asking him to let his whiskers grow. "All the ladies like whiskers and they would tease their husband's to vote for you and then you would be President."

Grace Bedell married Civil War veteran George Billings, when she was 17 years old and 4 years later, the couple moved to Delphos, Kansas. She lived the rest of her life in Delphos, passing away in 1936. She was buried at Delphos Cemetery.

The Grace Bedell Billings: Lincoln's Little Correspondent Monument was dedicated in the Delphos, Kansas town square on August 8, 1966.
