St. John the Baptist Oratory - Doniphan, Kansas St. John the Baptist Oratory has served the unincorporated community of Doniphan, Kansas for over 150 years. Part of the present brick building was built in 1867, though the structure was enlarged in 1891. The stained glass windows were added in 1892. The church is a mission of St. Benedict's Abbey in Atchison, Kansas. It has been classified as an oratory since the 1990s and does not function as a parish. Friends of St. John's Oratory were formed a in 2013 to preserve the church, which was in significant disrepair. So far they have replaced the roof and ceiling and performed other extensive repairs. St. John's church is available for weddings and Mass by request, subject to the availability of a priest. Although the grounds are open during daylight hours, the building is not open on a regular basis. The Oratory is located in the Brenner Vineyards Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
