Fox Still Art Environment - Sharon Springs, Kansas As we explore Kansas, we run across various Grassroots Art Environments. We learned of this one from a photo on a bulletin board when we were photographing Rheas Pump Organ Museum in Sharon Springs, Kansas. After we had lunch, we went looking for Cottage Avenue and discovered the sculptures you see on this page. Raymond "Fox" Still started making these figures in 1960 and used the first ones for archery targets. You can see the arrow holes in some of the figures shown on this page. The T-rex may be the most recent addition. It was erected in 2011. The various sculptures line the edges of a large vacant lot. The remains of many of the older ones which have served as archery targets can be found under trees along the sides of the lot. Fox Still was the retired Sharon Springs Police Chief and a wood craftsman and sportsman. He passed away in 2017. Drive by, or stop and see these folk art sculptures up close.
