First Presbyterian Church - Wichita, Kansas First Presbyterian Church is the oldest religious congregation in Wichita, Kansas having been organized by 13 members on March 13, 1870. Later that year, the congregation built the first permanent church structure in Wichita. That wooden building is now preserved in the Old Cowtown Museum. The current Gothic Revival style church was constructed from limestone from 1910 to 1912. The impressive sanctuary has vaulted ceilings, stone columns and in impressive central dome ceiling, as well as beautiful stained-glass windows. The church has a separate chapel which was built when a three story educational wing was added in 1936. After I rang the bell, the Office & Facilites Manager admitted me to take photos of the sanctuary and chapel, turning on lights and sharring some of the church history. I was also greeted by the Pastor. They were both generous with their time. If you wish tobe sure you will be able to tour the building, it is a good idea to call in advance.
