World's Largest Collection of World's Smallest Versions of World's Largest Things Lucas, Kansas is the home World's Largest Things, Inc., which is a constantly evolving creation by Lucas based artist, Erika Nelson, a creative, wonderful promoter of Lucas and other attractions. We first learned about Erika's The World's Largest Collection of the World's Smallest Versions of the World's Largest Things on public television's Rare Visions and Roadside Revelations years ago and were impressed by Erika. At the time, she had a "Traveling Roadside Attraction and Museum" in a modified Ford Van which was driven to events and various World's Largest Things. Erika would make tiny versions of those attractions to be added to the collection. See this picture at the bottom of the page to see the 2005 version of the van. The latest incarnation of World's Largest Things opened on April Fool's Day of 2018 in a storefront in downtown Lucas and is a work in progress. The collection is now housed in the Roadside Sideshow Expo and it is open seasonally or by appointment. Your chances are better on the weekends and it is worth going by, even if you don't have an appointment. If nothing else, you can look in through the window. The Roadside Sideshow Expo will give you a chance to learn the history of Roadside Vernacular Architecture and see the locations of the Superlatives of the American Road!
If you enter Lucas from the south or east, you will pass the World's Largest Souvenir Travel Plate. Erika Nelson made it from an old satellite dish and mounted it at the entrance to town on Highway 18. I keep looking forward to the new ways that Erika Nelson will find to promote Grassroots Art, Kansas and Lucas.
