- March 2, 2016: I had supper at Choga
Korean Restaurant in Overland Park, which I last visited in February
2015. I went with one of my old favorites, the Beef Kolbi (grilled beef
short ribs, marinated in a spicy sauce, with onions, green onions and mushrooms).
In the year since my last visit, the price of this dish has dropped from
$23.95 to $19.95. The six side dishes were, tofu, steamed egg, sprouts,
cabbage kimchi and two kids of radish kimchi.
The
side dishes didn't impress me as much as in the past. There were only two
which I cared for, the tofu and one of the radish dishes. The ribs were
good, though I would have liked them to be more spicy.

- March 8, 2016: Linda and I had supper at the new Fasika Ethiopian
Restaurant in Lenexa. It is very reasonably priced, with a number of entrees
under $9. Linda had the $9.99 Fasika Chicken (marinated chicken pieces
with pepper, onion, garlic, tomato, rosemary and other spices). I went
with the most expensive dish, the $13 Fasika Combo (spiced beef stew, mild
beef stew, chicken stew and a sample of all 6 vegetarian dishes). The chicken
was served with several rolls of injera (the spongy, sour bread) and my
sampler was served on the flat injera with additional rolls.
I
enjoyed the meal, but wouldn't say it was anything special. It is good
for a change of pace, but not some place I would make a point of trying.
There seemed to be less spice than I am used to with Ethiopian food.

- March 10, 2016: We had the pleasure of watching the Baylor/Texas
and Kansas/KSU games in the Big 12 tournament from the Time Warner Suite
at Sprint Arena in Kansas City, Missouri. Baylor easily defeated Texas
and Kansas State was never in their game.
Thank
you Time Warner for your hospitality!

- March 12, 2016: Linda and I drove up to Leavenworth to check out
Metropolitan Steakhouse. It is across the highway from the Federal Penitentiary
and bills itself as the "little steakhouse across from the Big House."
I had high hopes for the restaurant as it is old and serves things like
mountain oysters, but the food really did little for me. We had an appetizer
sampler with wings, mountain oysters & onion rings, plus ribeye, cheeseburger
and two types of fries. The wings were the best thing we had.
We
also visited the Carroll Mansion, which is operated by the Leavenworth
County Historical Society, but they do not permit photography, so we cannot
make a page promoting the museum.
From
a Kansas Travel standpoint, the only good thing was when I noticed a sign
saying Visitor Center as we passed the Fort. It turns out that security
has changed since I was last there a year and a half ago and the procedures
for visitors have dramatically changed. I took some photos and have updated
my pages about visiting both Fort Leavenworth
and Fort Riley.

- March 19, 2016: Linda and I had lunch at Conroy's Public House in
Overland Park. I have received several recommendations for this bar and
grill, particularly for the fried chicken. The interior is quite dar and
the walls are covered with Irish signs.
Linda
had the Shepherd's pie. It was pretty straight forward, not bad, but she
would have enjoyed it more if it had a crust. I had the fired chicken,
substituting the house cut fries with curry for the mashed potatoes and
gravy. The chicken was good, though far from outstanding. The curry could
have used a little more spice.
The
service was very good. They were accommodating about the substitution and
good about changing a couple of the TVs to a basketball game which we wanted
to see. After another visit or two, this place will probably find its way
onto our Overland Park Restaurant Guide.

- March 24, 2016: We paid a second visit to Stagecoach Tavern in Overland
Park. The best part of the meal was the appetizers, the onion rings in
particular. Overall, I rate the food about 3 out 5 and the service 2.5.
Not bad, but no treat.
I
like their other Overland Park location, Berg
& Barrel, much more.
