Cedar Vreek Falls - Olathe, Kansas
Wednesday - Mar 4, 2020: Passing through Lenexa, Kansas I spotted a hawk on the cross atop the 1911 Old Stone Chapel at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. This attractive old stone church has long caught my eye and I hope to photograph the interior some day.

We drove to Lawrence, Kansas for Senior Night for the men's basketball team at the University of Kansas. This is the one night of the year, that I particularly want to attend. We were particularly there for the after game speeches by Udoka Azubuike and Isaiah Moss. During the half time, the seniors from the cheerleaders, dance team and band were also honored and it was fun seeing the big response that drummer Donovan Miller (whose video went viral in 2019) received.

Friday - March 6, 2020: Following a visit to the Kansas City Auto Show for my day job, I circled around to the east to have lunch at Big T's Bar-B-Q in Kansas City, Missouri. I get to this part of town rarely and with there being other nearby restaurants which I love (LC's Bar-B-Q and Peach Tree Buffet), so it is hard getting by here enough to keep the review current. Not that this isn't good barbeque, but I love LC's. Both of those BBQ restaurants are on our Kansas City BBQ Restaurant Guide.

Today I wanted sausage, but it wasn't ready, so I tried something I hadn't had before, the rib tips, which come with fries for $12.95. The fires were good, but the rib tips were not as tender and juicy as I expected. I still enjoyed it, but would not make a point of getting it again.

Tuesday - March 17, 2020: Due to the risk of spreading COVID-19, restaurants in metropolitan Kansas City can no longer offer inside dining. I want to do my part to help locally owned businesses stay in operation,  I picked up a chicken Caesar salad from Toni's Italian Restaurant in Olathe. The salad was good, but I was disappointed that the bag did not have the wonderful bread and dipping sauce which comes with the salad when it is ordered in house.

Wednesday - March 18, 2020: I continued to get carryout at lunch from locally owned restaurants and called Olathe's Downtown Diner. They don't have a menu online, but we have their menu on our page about the restaurant. I got a deep fried Rueben Roll, with fries, which I had never had before. Not bad, but not one of my favorite dishes from there.

Thursday - March 19, 2020: Today's carryout lunch was ordered at t he drive through of Go Chicken Go in Olathe. I got a half order of fried chicken gizzards without the roll and had them substitute a second container of their wonderful, hot G-sauce. I drove to the nearby Frisco Lake Park and watched the birds on the water while eating lunch.

Go Chicken Go has a very basic, fast food atmosphere and this was actually much more pleasant than the usual dining in.

I didn't recognize any of the people working in the restaurant today. That has never happened before.

Friday - March 20, 2020: Continuing to get lunch to go in Olathe, I stopped by Smokin' Joe's BBQ to get a ribber (three large pork ribs and fries). I was the only one picking up food and the clerk said that business had been slow. I drove to the west side of town and had lunch looking out at Lake Olathe.

Afterward, I stopped Cedar Creek Waterfall to make a video in the beautiful weather.

Saturday - March 21, 2020: It is another beautiful day and it is going to be weeks before we have much new material for our web site and Facebook page, so I headed to Merriam Kansas to photograph waterfalls on Turkey Creek. The one at the right, is in Merriam's Waterfall Park, but I also visited one about a half mile up river, near Ikea.

I drove nearby to Shawnee, Kansas to Horse Thief Cemetery, which I first heard of years ago on the radio program What'd Ya Know? Also known as Campbell Cemetery, the tiny cemetery is in the middle of a block in a residential neighborhood, All that is there, is a set of steps at the entrance, an old stone post and a single large marker devoted to Alexander and Nancy Campbell. Tradition is that 4 horse thieves were once hung and buried in the cemetery, but I' not sure how accurate that is.

I went on to revisit Shawnee Indian Cemetery, about a half mile away. It was the first time I had been there since several of the stones were stolen and I will be updating the photos devoted to the cemetery.

Before leaving the neighborhood, I went searching for a huge clothes pin, which had been carved from the trunk of a dead tree. It had been moved to a new yard, but I quickly located it.

Sunday - March 22, 2020: We had a carryout pizza from Pizza Man in Lenexa, Kansas today. I really enjoy their Chicago thin crust pizza. Since I am in a high risk group, this may be the last we get carryout food for the next few weeks.
